Off the coast of Japan, a small dog was rescued from the floating remnants of its home, after three weeks at sea. It is unknown what the dog survived on and how it managed to fare for such a prolonged period of time on the water. Rescuers made a concerted effort to save the creature, hoping that its owners were somewhere close by, and had also managed to survive. It does not seem to be the case. More then 18,000 people are still missing, and hundreds of thousands more are suffering the effects of the earthquake, tsunami, and from the psychological effects of the looming nuclear threat.
