Marketing Pricing Estimator

Many companies often find themselves unsure of how to allocate their marketing budget. How much should they spend on marketing in total? How should they divide up their budget for maximum returns? Below, we will explain how businesses most commonly approach determining what to do with their marketing budget. For a custom analysis of your business, please call us and one of our Digital Strategists will help you do an evaluation.

How Much Should You Dedicate Towards Marketing Overall?

Research provided by Entrepreneur magazine (https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/243790) and Gartner (http://www.gartner.com/technology/research/digital-marketing/digital-marketing-spend-report.jsp) states that generally, you should commit around 10% of your total revenue to your marketing and advertising budget. For businesses that do not have any revenue, it is recommended investing as much money as you can afford over 12 months into your marketing efforts to get ramped up.

A 2014 survey of CMO’s by Duke and the American Marketing Foundation found companies with:

  • $25 million or less in revenue spent an average of 11% on marketing
  • $25-$99 million in revenue spent an average of 9% on marketing

The study also found that different types of businesses spent at different levels:

  • B2B Product Businesses: 10.6%
  • B2B Service Businesses: 10.1%
  • B2C Product Businesses: 16.3%
  • B2C Service Businesses: 10.9%

Some companies with aggressive growth goals spend far more. For example, Salesforce invests 53% of its total revenue into marketing.

How Should You Spend Your Marketing Budget?

If you are an online only business, clearly you will spend all of your marketing budget targeting online resources such as Search Engine Optimization, Pay Per Click, Social Media, etc. If you have a bricks and mortar business (like a Walmart), you should anticipate spending at least 50% of your budget on online advertising.

Based on our experiences working with over a thousand clients, we have discovered that on average the following breakdown works well for the average business:

  • 50% of total advertising spend should be dedicated to SEO as an established website almost always receives the vast majority of it’s traffic and revenue from Google’s search engine.
  • 30% of total budget should be dedicated to PPC
  • 20% of budget should be committed to email and social media marketing

Each business is different though, so please call our Digital Strategy team to get a custom evaluation of your business and budget recommendations that will provide you the greatest return on investment.

Estimating Your Budget More Accurately

To get a better sense of how much you should spend on marketing, it’s imperative that you understand your business goals. You should ask yourself some fundamental questions:

  • What is your total monthly revenue?
  • Are you looking for average growth or high growth?
  • What percentage of your total revenue comes from the internet?

The answers to these questions will definitely affect how much you should put into your marketing budget. If you’re looking for average growth, you only need to put 10% of your revenue into marketing, but if you’re looking for more robust growth, allocating 20-30% of your total revenue will help you achieve that.

Small Business Budget Example

Let’s say you operate a small business and you’re looking for high growth. If your company generates $30,000 in monthly revenue from online consumers, you should dedicate $6,000, or 20% of your revenue, towards online marketing.

A simple breakdown of your total revenue into the three main online marketing strategies should resemble this:

  • SEO: $3,000
  • PPC: $1,800
  • Email & Social Media: $1,200

Here, you can clearly see that SEO takes up 50% of the budget, PPC comprises 30%, while email and social media take up 20%.

Coalition Technologies’ Hours Based on Your Budget

If you decide to work with an SEO marketing firm, you’ll encounter many different rates. Unfortunately, most SEO companies do not explicitly disclose how many hours they spend on actual work, especially because they do very little aside from using automated tools.

At Coalition Technologies, we stand by the notion that a winning SEO campaign takes man hours to build, in addition to automated solutions and quite a few tools we’ve built ourselves. With a hypothetical budget of $6,000, you can anticipate that our team will budget 27 hours to SEO, 17 hours on PPC, and 11 hours to your social media and email campaigns. Over a 6 to 12 month period, your business can anticipate powerful results with our marketing strategies.

Reviews of the 8 Best Los Angeles Marketing Agencies of 2016

Joel Gross, CEO - Coalition TechnologiesThe 2016 calendar year is upon us. This year we will elect a new president, witness the retirement of Kobe Bryant, and watch Batman and Superman share the big screen for the first time. But what about your business? If you’re looking to make 2016 your best year yet, perhaps you’re on the hunt for the best Los Angeles marketing agency to help you realize your full potential within the increasingly competitive L.A. business landscape.

As the founder and CEO of Coalition Technologies, one of the most successful online marketing agencies in Southern California, I would like to take a few moments to outline the merits of my company, while also helping you to gain a better understanding of some of the other local agencies, so that you can make an informed choice. No, I won’t be slandering or smearing any of the other agencies out there, because that’s not my goal here. I respect your time, and I recognize that my agency isn’t the ideal choice for every client. So I want you to have a well-rounded idea of your options.

The best advice I can give you is to do your homework. This is a critical financial investment, so don’t walk into it blindly. When determining the best Los Angeles marketing agency for your online business, there are a number of essential factors that you must consider. For instance:

  • How many years has the agency been in business?
  • What are their existing and former clients saying about them?
  • Does their track record demonstrate a consistent pattern of success that exceeds that of the competition?
  • Do they offer a comprehensive range of important marketing services (each administered by specialized experts in their respective niche), or do they focus on a singular discipline like SEO, PR, or link building?

Before I start breaking down the best agencies individually, I would like to point out that the following list was not assembled arbitrarily. I have come into contact with a myriad of local agencies, and I have only included those which are highly lauded by my own clients, colleagues, and contacts. And though some are clearly better than others, these agencies all make up the creme de la creme of marketing in the City of Angels.

So without further ado, here are my picks for the best marketing agencies in Los Angeles:

  1. Coalition Technologies. The most versatile option, and your best bet for online marketing.
  2. Use All Five. The best-of-the-best for UX strategy and app design.
  3. BLITZ. Not afraid to take risks, and these risks often pay huge dividends.
  4. Razorfish. Their range of services is unparalleled, but their size is a mixed blessing.
  5. HUGE. An excellent advertising partner, but only for the nation’s largest businesses.
  6. Saatchi & Saatchi. Unbeatable in traditional advertising; not the best for online marketing.
  7. David&Goliath. An inspired choice for your next Super Bowl commercial.
  8. 72andSunny. Excellent results, despite a comparatively limited range of services.

1. Coalition Technologies

2. Use All Five

Use All Five has become a leading force in the local online marketing sphere, due in no small part to their impressive client list, broad range of services, and innovative approach to marketing. With a full decade in business, the company has made quite a name for itself due to its branding prowess and stunning designs. Use All Five operates at the intersection of design and marketing for a wide-reaching approach that combines research, brand strategy, web design, app design, digital product creation, and social strategy.

Although Use All Five prides itself on its combined marketing and design finesse, its notable strengths definitely lean more toward the design side. The company’s predominantly technical staff masterfully navigates every minute aspect of web design and application design, even if their marketing efforts are a bit more par-for-the-course. I often recommend the company to prospects in need of app design, because there are few agencies out there with greater proficiency in app creation and development.

If you’re in need of UX strategy or design, iOS or Android development, digital product creation, or product innovation, you may want to check out Use All Five. When it comes to campaigns that require a unique combination of marketplace expertise and design proficiency, this company is simply second to none. The designs are always forward thinking, and the execution is always flawless. The work they completed on behalf of the UCLA Arts & Architecture 100th anniversary is especially impressive, as it exemplifies the very sort of tasteful and yet inventive delicacy for which the department is world renowned.

3. BLITZ

logosWith work completed on behalf of major power players like Xbox and Starbucks, BLITZ has made quite a name for itself. The company is known for its highly driven and skilled team, cutting-edge approach to marketing, and broad client base. Whereas Use All Five thrives in the field of design, BLITZ has definitely made more of an impact as a marketing force. Perhaps that’s due to the company’s commitment to establishing multifaceted marketing campaigns that connect with consumers on a human level.

The company’s own designs are impressive if not somewhat minimalist and familiar, but every company has its strengths, and BLITZ is truly in the business of building brands. At least, I have certainly found this to be the overwhelming consensus among the former BLITZ clients with whom I have worked, and I have encountered very few complaints in regard to their unique marketing approach. In today’s ever-growing marketplace, the competition is more fierce than ever before, and any digital marketing agency must be willing to think outside the box in order to distinguish itself from the endless sea of competing interests. BLITZ not only meets this challenge head-on, but proves time and again why it remains a contender for the best Los Angeles marketing agency.

The company’s marketing approach is defined by a combination of content creation, mobile optimization, social media, design, and strategy, and it thrives especially in the creative niches — with well-crafted content, an impressive level of social media engagement, and branding that connects with users. With locations in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, BLITZ continues to expand its influence across the nation, and although their pricing is definitely on the higher end of the spectrum, they certainly understand how to meet their clients’ eclectic needs.

4. Razorfish

razorfishRazorfish is one of the largest and most successful digital agencies in the world, and so I would be remiss if I failed to include it on this list. In business since 1995, these guys have been around longer than many of the modern hallmarks of online marketing that we take for granted (like, for instance, anything related to Google ranking or advertising). This unparalleled level of experience is certainly to their credit, although admittedly my interactions with former Razorfish clients have been mixed.

On the positive side, Razorfish has a team of more than 2,000 employees, all of whom specialize in a particular field, and the range of fields is more broad and diverse than anything I’ve seen in an online marketing agency. From design to development to SEO to media buying to app design to social influence marketing, Razorfish truly does it all. If you’re the type of business owner who’s looking to invest in marketing that leaves absolutely no stone unturned, Razorfish surely has a team of experts just for you. It’s worth noting, though, that this impressive volume of experts seems to be the company’s greatest hindrance as well.

Basically, I tend to describe Razorfish as the digital marketing equivalent of an 80,000-seat megachurch. Yes, the church grew by leaps and bounds because its message resonated with a lot of people, but now it’s so big that none of the parishioners are able to receive the kind of one-on-one attention that made the church so beloved in the first place. Razorfish became enormously successful by offering exemplary service, but now the company is so big and so multifarious that it has evolved into somewhat of a marketing assembly line. You can still enjoy great results, but bear in mind that you may not enjoy the same level of individual attention and care that you would receive from a smaller and more focused company.

5. HUGE

HUGE isn’t just a name. It’s an apt description of the client base that this agency serves. The company caters specifically to Fortune 100 companies, so unless your business is poised to dominate your respective industry, you may want to look elsewhere. HUGE is renowned for helping companies thrive within the world’s most competitive niches, but that kind of expert assistance definitely comes at a price, so be prepared to write some hefty checks.

The company specializes in all of the trademark aspects of online marketing: content creation, social media, branding, web design, UX design…but where they really thrive is in the research department. HUGE remains on the pulse of market trends by tirelessly analyzing, researching, and testing the ever-changing trends that define profitability in any given industry. That’s why the nation’s premier businesses are willing to honor the high price tag.

If you’re hunting for the best Los Angeles marketing agency, you should never underestimate the paramount importance of meticulous market research as an integral part of your campaign, but sadly, many of the most popular agencies still tailor their efforts according to the current trends, without any thought to where the market is actually headed. When consulting with a potential firm, make sure to ask them about their market research practices. This is where agencies like HUGE and Coalition Technologies truly thrive.

In addition to their tireless research practices, the marketing team at HUGE is also renowned for their delivery of results. Perhaps that’s why the company consistently makes Ad Age’s coveted A-List. Despite the company’s enormous size and international reach, it still manages to cater to the individual needs of each client without falling into the assembly-line trap. This is no easy feat, and it’s why HUGE continues to attract industry leaders. Just be prepared to pay.

6. Saatchi & Saatchi L.A.

Labour-isnt-Working_1280-20140218105801468Headquartered in New York, but with a sizable presence in the L.A. market, Saatchi & Saatchi is another one of those massive “Let’s take over the world” digital marketing agencies, and while I wouldn’t rank them as the best Los Angeles marketing agency, they are certainly a force to be reckoned with. The company boasts a staff of more than 6,000, and has existed as an advertising agency since 1970.

Over the years, the company has boasted some world-famous accolades. They helped Margaret Thatcher to become Britain’s first female prime minister, coining the now-legendary slogan, “Labour isn’t working.” They have worked with some of the world’s most successful and lucrative companies, including Toyota, Pampers, and Samsonite. Remember the much-fussed-over Cheerios commercial featuring the adorable little girl with biracial parents? That was their handiwork. And although the ad was exploited into a huge controversy by news media upon its release, it proved to be a veritable goldmine for General Mills.

Since 2006, Saatchi & Saatchi has been working to widen its reach within the marketing world, by partnering with other digital firms like the now defunct Hyperfactory, based out of New Zealand. These efforts have helped the agency to introduce new digital services to its growing customer base, with offerings that transcend the confines of traditional advertising.

But although the company has expanded into a wide range of digital marketing enterprises, it remains — first and foremost — a high-end advertising firm. That’s great if your needs are ad-centric, but if you require a broad range of online marketing services that cover SEO, PPC, PR, and design, Saatchi & Saatchi might not be your best bet. They are amazing at what they do, but their scope is still fairly limited, and their prices are still out of reach for most up-and-coming online businesses.

7. David&Goliath

kia-hamstersDavid&Goliath may not have quite the global reach of a company like Saatchi & Saatchi or HUGE, but they have nevertheless made quite a name for themselves in a relatively short amount of time. With a client list that includes Jack in the Box, Kia, Universal Studios Hollywood, and even the CA Lottery, David&Goliath has proven to be a Goliath unto itself, with a unique approach that is dedicated to creating “unique, engaging brand experiences.” The company is perhaps best known for creating the now-famous “Legendary” Super Bowl ad for Jack in the Box and those adorable but edgy Kia Soul hamsters, but these are hardly their only forays into multi-million-dollar Super Bowl advertising. You may also remember Pierce Brosnan’s Sorrento ad, which premiered during Super Bowl XLIX.

A 30-second advertising spot during the Super Bowl will cost you a cool $4.5 million (as of this writing), and so every second of advertising time is absolutely critical. David&Goliath is the best of the best when it comes to making a bold impression in under a minute, but as you can imagine, they don’t come cheap. Their advertising approach is innovative, groundbreaking, and always influential, but their efforts are definitely geared toward the heavy hitters. If you have a sizable budget to invest in marketing, and your customer base is predominately brick-and-mortar, these guys might be a worthwhile choice.

For nationally and internationally renowned businesses who rely on a daily influx of customers, David&Goliath can perhaps service your needs better than anyone else. After all, their strengths lie in the acquisition of customers through traditional forms of media, and while they do offer online marketing and advertising services, they are not a digital agency in the purest sense. More than anything, they still excel in the form of marketing that has been turning brands into household names since the dawn of print and television advertising.

8. 72andSunny

o-CARLS-JR-facebookRecognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies 2015, 72andSunny has worked with a broad range of clients that includes Target, Coors, Samsung, and even Google. Advertising Age and Adweek have both recognized the company as Agency of the Year, in no small part due to their unique and groundbreaking approach to online as well as traditional advertising. For businesses who seek only the best in advertising, but are looking to bridge the gap between television and digital marketing, 72andSunny provides an impressive balance.

What truly sets them apart in the advertising world is their understanding of 21st-century customer needs. This is where a lot of other local advertising agencies — even those highlighted on this list — fall short. Adweek and Bloomberg have credited 72andSunny with helping Samsung — once a struggling contender in the smartphone world — to make a name for itself amid the iPhone craze and even overtake Apple in phone sales. This is no small feat, and the company could never have achieved this impressive accomplishment without taking costly risks and exhibiting an unsurpassed understanding of both traditional and modern forms of media.

But whether the company is assembling sexy burger ads on behalf of Carl’s Jr., or creating flashy hip-hop action montages to promote Call of Duty, their commitment to visceral, evocative imagery remains unwavering, and perhaps that’s why their ventures are consistently so successful. They truly make you want to purchase the products that they’re promoting. And yes, their scope is still somewhat limited in terms of the range of services offered, but the services they do offer are second to none. Like many of the other contenders on this list, 72andSunny has an executive-level pricing structure, so if budget is an issue, you may want to look elsewhere.

For instance, if you have the budget and the goal to produce an unforgettable television commercial for the next Super Bowl, you might want to consider David&Goliath; if you want your Fortune 100 company to remain competitive within the still-expanding marketplace of traditional media, you might want to consider HUGE.

Online Marketing: Rookie Mistakes

George Brinton McClellan (December 3, 1826 – October 29, 1885) was a major general during the American Civil War. He organized the famous Army of the Potomac and served briefly (November 1861 to March 1862) as the general-in-chief of the Un...

Online marketing is a difficult field to do well because it’s easy for businesses to lose sight of what’s important when developing an online marketing plan. Professional Los Angeles SEO services providers can help fuel a company’s new venture into online marketing and optimize their campaign, but business owners should also have a solid idea of their marketing strategy. Below are some key pitfalls every business should avoid to make sure they’re using online marketing services to their advantage.

Not Knowing Your Company’s Goals Well Enough

While a business should know their vision, it’s also important to have concrete steps to take in order to make that vision into a reality. For online marketing, that includes identifying a company’s goals and their environment. A company should keep in mind its core services, how it measures success, its audience, and how to reach that audience when working with a Los Angeles SEO service company or attempting to do online marketing themselves. They should also have methods and tools to measure those goals, such as Google Analytics, so they can record their efforts and effectiveness.

Failing to Create a Plan

One of the things any reputable Los Angeles SEO services company does is create a detailed plan of action for their client. This plan includes which channels they will use, social media, SEO, pay per click and others, how they plan to use those channels and when they will complete their service. All the information in the plan should work together as a comprehensive strategy for increasing the client’s goal conversion.

Putting All Your Eggs in One Basket

There’s a variety of different ways to do online marketing including SEO, social media optimization, search engine marketing (SEM), email marketing, affiliate marketing and link building. While some of these methods work better for certain businesses than others, they all have some value to a company. Focusing solely on one channel means that a company diverts attention away from other useful options.

Any good Los Angeles SEO services firm will advise their clients to use a variety of different channels as a way to test their material. Because online marketing always involves measuring effort, the SEO company should be able to evaluate a campaign and advise their client about the best places to put their efforts going forward.

Making Too Much of Early Success

For startups and other companies, the main goal should be recurring income. This is a good way to measure sustainability for a company, and it’s also what potential investors look for in a firm.

Just because a company experiences success immediately doesn’t mean that they’ve achieved their long term goal of regular income. A company cannot become complacent with early success or fail to capitalize on that success. A Los Angeles SEO services firm like Coalition Technologies knows how to profit from momentum and keep the campaign moving regardless of early successes or failures.

Lack of Communication

I was coming back on Air Canada's red eye from Sao Paulo, Brazil and let them know when I boarded that I was the "veg dinner" if they were looking for me. It turned into a big deal, they didn't have it but borrowed one...

Startups need to establish an effective way for senior management to communicate with the people below them and their Los Angeles SEO services provider. One good way to do this is to establish metrics to hold everyone accountable to at the beginning of the process. If a company doesn’t establish good communication, they can miss out on an opportunity to measure their efforts. SEO and online marketing services need to relate to a company’s core business and services and should be done at a good return on investment for both money and time. Communication is essential to meeting those goals.

8 Reasons to Hire an Online Marketing Team

Confident business man in suit and tie reaching out. Modified from http://www.sxc.hu/browse.- phtml?f=view&id=472422 by request. <br /><br />An even beter quality picture without the shadow can be found here: http://www.stockxpert....

Whether you’re running a startup, young business, or an already successful company, there are many reasons to hire a qualified Los Angeles SEO consultant to help with marketing. The bottom line is that a good online marketing consultant can help your business generate more revenue and meet its goals more effectively. Below are a list of reasons to consider outsourcing a business’ online marketing to a high quality Los Angeles SEO consultant firm like Coalition Technologies.

Leverage an Outside Perspective

What any online marketer brings is an outside perspective, but this perspective is particularly valuable when its from a reputable business with years of experience and a team of experts in their specialized fields. It’s always better to have a second set of eyes to review a strategy, and with outside help, there may be skills and lessons learned from other experiences that an in-house marketer may have missed. Generally, a good Los Angeles SEO consultant finds new ways to identify potential customers and convert those customers into sales.

Save Time

For many startups, the staff works on online marketing while also focusing on other areas of the business. Hiring a marketing consultant allows your full-time employees to focus on the actual business at hand. Also, since the consultant has more experience in their area, the business doesn’t have to waste resources training the consultant in their job.

Capitalize on Experience

A Los Angeles SEO consultant brings a depth of experience working on different campaigns from across the country. With these campaigns comes experience on what works best for certain audiences that a startup or other company cannot bring to the table. By hiring an outsourced consultant, the business also holds someone accountable to their promises and goals they set for themselves.

Use Professional Marketing Software

There are many professional marketing software platforms like Raven, Majestic SEO and Buzzstream that startups and novices simply don’t have the time to learn or the spare resources to purchase. By hiring a Los Angeles SEO consultant, the business gets access to these tools without having to pay the costs to use them.to see higher res photos of mine please visit<br />http://www.stockxpert.com- /browse_image/profile/sur- ely

Make Your Business More Flexible

Consultants and contractors are able to adjust their workload based on the business’ needs. If a new contract or project arises, the relationship with the marketer can simply be amped up to compensate for the new work. This saves time retraining core employees or imprudently hiring new employees whenever a new need arises.

Diversify Your Channels

Many startups choose to focus on only one medium for their marketing strategy. This is understandable since it’s a burden to learn so many different channels, but it limits the company’s potential. SEO, social media outreach, pay per click advertising, link building and countless other channels exist to build a business’ brand.

Meet Challenges

A SEO consultant can be hired and scaled back based on the business’ needs. This allows the business to make bids and be aggressive knowing that they can rely on their partners to provide services when they need them.

Reduce Stress

In terms of just responsibility, let alone the learning curve and workload, marketing a company in-house can be very stressful. Hiring an expert places that stress on someone better able and willing to handle it.

Coalition Technologies has helped dozens of business build their brand and grow. Follow our blog for more information about the benefits of outsourcing a company’s online marketing.

How Lego Uses Online Marketing the Right Way

Online marketing has a reputation of being a sort of gray hat world at times, but it’s possible to do it right, make money and maintain a company’s ethics at the same time. One great example of this that every Los Angeles SEO agency should take note of is Lego’s incorporation of child’s rights and marketing. Through this partnership, the company has been able to reach a wide range of children and drive business in a way that doesn’t exploit unethical sources.

Lego’s Partnership with Children’s Rights Organizations

Lego is committed to the UNICEF Children’s Rights and Business Principles Sixth Principle that states that businesses should use marketing and advertising services in a way that respects and supports children’s rights. The company has partnered with the Responsible Advertising and Children Program (RACP) to comply with this rule and with the International Chamber of Commerce’s Code of Advertising and Marketing Communications Practice. RACP is an organization that helps boost its members’ understanding of societal pressures surrounding children, parents and perceptions about what it means to be a parent. Lego also follows the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act which governs parental consent and collection of personal data from children.

Children and Online Marketing

In general, children see the internet as a natural extension of the real world, which is obviously not always the case. This blurring of the boundaries between reality and perception create a vulnerability in children and an opportunity for unscrupulous marketers to play on in order to sell their products. Lego is committed to avoiding using this perception and lack of understanding in children to their advantage and takes steps in their copywriting, video production and other media to avoid any misunderstanding. These steps are somthing Los Angeles SEO agencies should emulate.

The company also enforces restrictions on engaging children through social media. Social media is one of the key areas where children can mistake the internet for real life, and by not using interaction as part of their marketing, Lego avoids taking advantage of the child’s lack of understanding. Lego also has a ban on paying children under the age of 16 to promote Lego products.

Principles Guiding Lego’s Online Marketing

In addition to their partnerships and bans, Lego also established certain principles for its marketing department. First, the company is committed to not taking advantage of a child’s inexperience to mislead them in their understanding of a product. Second, Lego seeks to never portray unsafe or harmful situations or actions. Often children are exposed to violent or hazardous scenes with toys, but Lego is trying to reduce this exposure through their products. Finally, the company tries to not create pressure on children or parents to purchase products or create unrealistic perceptions of value. Toys are not foundational to family happiness with Lego.

Where Internet Marketing Falls Short

Internet marketing is unfortunately a hotbed for unscrupulous business people, and Los Angeles SEO services providers can be no different. If a business is unlucky enough to interact with one of these providers, it can damage their operations and set them back many months, even years. There are many telltale signs that an internet marketer doesn’t know what they’re doing that businesses can watch out for when selecting a provider.

Focusing Too Heavily on One Marketing Strategy

Internet marketing is a highly adaptive field. For example, in the last two years, Google has launched three updates to its search engine, Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird, that changed the way the search engine ranks websites. Additionally, social media, blogs and other channels for internet marketing change their structure to constantly stay relevant and fresh. Placing too many eggs in one basket leads to failure when that basket changes its rules or system.

Additionally, a good Los Angeles SEO services provider knows to always measure and adjust their efforts. Internet marketing is about goal conversion and increasing revenue. By placing resources in a variety of channels, the marketer can find the most effective channel for their client.

Lack of Direction

Effective Los Angeles SEO service providers also know that planning is crucial to any successful campaign. All successful campaigns begin with an analysis of the client’s product, advantages, customers, market and opportunities. The marketer then develops a detailed plan outlining concrete steps to take to meet the company’s goals. In this way the company is held accountable to their client, something that fly-by-night marketers avoid.

Unrealistic Goals

Anyone claiming to be able to double or exponentially grow a company’s business should be looked at with skepticism. It’s not that internet marketing cannot lead to success, but the success comes from hard work and planning. Good Los Angeles SEO services companies look for steady growth and try to create sustainable campaigns and business for their clients. While short growth may benefit a company immediately, the only way to succeed in the long run is by recurring business. The top half of this rocket blew off as it was accelerating, a sure sign of a motor failure. Then it returned like a meteor to Earth. I kept the motor drive going on full telephoto to capture the sequence. Here are a sequence of four frames to ...

Lack of Focus on the Customer

Internet marketing needs to provide value to the customer first. There’s no magic bullet that makes up for the fact that marketing is about human to human interaction, and most Los Angeles SEO service providers know that. Website copy shouldn’t be overstuffed with keywords, outreach efforts shouldn’t focus on gaming the search engines and other short cuts should be avoided as well.

Unreliable Experts

There are many people on the internet today making themselves out to be an SEO or internet marketing expert. Like other get rich quick schemes, these people follow certain patterns that businesses can identify and avoid. They often push poor quality products and have few if any original business ideas. When a business interacts with them, they’ll notice that they lack any organization or business systems, and like most con artists, these marketers tend to be fast talkers and difficult to pin down. If a business notices any of these patterns, they should immediately consider hiring another firm.

Coalition Technologies is a reputable internet marketer that’s helped many clients increase their business through hard work and planning. Follow our blog for more alerts on internet marketing scams.

Infographics: Wine Not?

Original Source: Different Types of Wine

Infographics are an obvious content solution. They’re an attractive way to provide information to your target audience, while seamlessly fusing your creative heavyweights: copy and design. While infographics may seem like a hip new invention, infographics have existed for hundreds of years, compartmentalizing data for readers in useful, visual ways.

While we could spout a bunch of statistics about the value of infographics for your content marketing strategy, we can bet (without looking), there are quite a few infographics already doing just that. Meta, right?

So instead of inundating you with the facts, we’re here to share a case study of an effective infographic strategy we discovered during our daily content research: Wine Folly’s The Many Different Types of Wine.

This infographic was so shareable, it landed a spot on content-behemoth, BuzzFeed. Talk about a PR goldmine for Wine Folly. So why do we think this infographic is so fruit-forward?

Let’s break it down:

1. Creating Targeted Content

Who loves wine? Millennials. Who also loves spending money online? That’s right: millennials. Every day, new research pops up about millennials reshaping the wine market. With high-paying tech jobs and low levels of responsibility (many millennials are forfeiting children for travel and high-end living), millennials are able afford the $40 bottles of wine their parents may have passed on. Just as winemakers are smart to develop relationships with their younger customers, content providers are smart to use wine to drive traffic.

Enter Wine Folly, a content provider that simplifies wine for online audiences. Yes, it’s true, Wine Folly uses great content to make money. And yes, you can too.

2. In the Know

Social media and content have taken off, because they make internet users feel “in the loop.” Facebook makes you a part of a club, where people “like” and support you, and social content keeps you up-to-date on topics you wish you knew more about: news and what’s hip (in this case, wine).

Wine Folly’s chart draws on something that’s in-fashion and makes you a connoisseur. Read this infographic, and you, too, can be in the cool club.

3. SEO-Friendly

No digital content discussion would be complete without mention of SEO. While there are plenty of content marketers ready to whine (no pun intended) about the limitations of SEO copy, Wine Folly’s infographic proves great content can also serve a traffic-driving purpose. As you probably already know, Google’s crawlers can’t read images, and thus, images don’t provide SEO value. To remedy this situation, Wine Folly published their infographic around keyword-rich 500+ words of text. The text is not only informative, but adds context to the chart and provides internal links to other content-rich pages on their site.

You can even buy the infographic as a poster for your home. Yes, you can have your keywords and create art-worthy content too.

4. Linkbuilding

We can’t say for sure whether Wine Folly pitched Buzzfeed or Buzzfeed reached out to them, but either way, getting a link on Buzzfeed is an incredible linkbuilding strategy worth considering. High-level media outlets provide invaluable traction to your site. How do you think we found this infographic in the first place? See how we’re sharing it too?

At Coalition Technologies, we love making infographics. Infographics allow our restless creatives to stretch their copy claws and photoshop talons and create something new and interesting that serves your business’s needs. Need to drive traffic? There’s an infographic for that!

Paid vs. Owned vs. Earned Media

In thinking about your Los Angeles owned media marketing strategy, you’ve probably seen a few interesting marketing terms in your research, such as paid media and earned media, in addition to owned media. What are the difference between these media types and how do you get the most out of them? We talk about these media types below and the relative advantages of each one.

Owned Media

You probably already know what owned media is, but let’s go over the media type and its uses so you can plan effectively for your Los Angeles owned media marketing strategy. Owned media is basically the content you generate in order to have a substantial online presence. Owned media comes in the form of websites, mobile sites, content for your social media channels, emails, and blog content. Owned media is used to engage viewers and drive traffic to your products and services. Owned media is also the resource you use to gain attention on your social media channels, or in other words to drive your earned media. Owned media is nice in terms of costs because other than hosting costs for any websites, the other delivery methods – such as blogs and email – are free; they just take up time and energy. To really take advantage of owned media, you need to generate rich, quality content geared for search engines, content that your visitors can engage with and share with others.

Paid Media

Paid media is basically paid advertising like Pay Per Click ads, Google Adwords, and social media ads like on Facebook. The nice thing about paid media is that it is often more precise than relying on search engine optimization or social media presence. You can target a market and pay to get in. However, costs can add up fast for this media, so use it wisely.

Earned Media

Earned media is basically when your content is spread via word of mouth. Social media platforms are often targeted for this type of media, since social media offers the possibility of rapid word of mouth travel and viral marketing. The advantage of earned media is that it rarely entails any up-front costs. Like owned media, it just takes time and energy. If your message goes viral, you can generate huge exposure for virtually non-existent costs. Plus, this form of media is the most trusted because the recommendation is coming from a consumer’s friends and family. However, this form of media is more difficult to control and you will have to put some time and energy into it to get your fans invested.

Get the Most Out of Your Marketing Campaign

The best way to go about your Los Angeles owned media marketing strategy is to combine owned media with the other types of media to maximize your effectiveness. Rich, quality owned content is what engages your customers and opens the possibility for earned content exposure. Furthermore, you can use paid media to target weak portions of the market that you might have more trouble breaking into with organic methods. All of the content types reinforce each other, so you want to master all of them to get the most out of your marketing campaign.

If you really want to beat out the competition, why not hire a professional? Each content form has its own set of characteristics and requires a lot of time and energy to keep up with the latest techniques and achieve mastery. Coalition Technologies offers services that cover all three forms of media, and our marketing professionals are among the best talent in the industry. Maximize your Los Angeles owned media marketing strategy with our proven expertise. Give us a call today at 1-888-993-7639 and get your free quote.

What is “Earned” Media?

When you look into discussions about online marketing, you often hear various terms like paid media, owned media, and earned media being thrown about. A lot of marketers are putting increased emphasis on earned media especially. What is earned media exactly? Let’s talk about the advantages and disadvantages of earned media, and what it means for your Los Angeles earned media marketing strategy.

What is Earned Media?

Basically, earned media has to do with using content and social media to spread your message via word of mouth. The content itself can come in many forms. Many brands get creative to get their followers engaged and make them spread the word. Social media can be anything from a single platform like Facebook, Google+, or Twitter, or it can take place over a variety of channels. It is hard to tell exactly what is going to happen with an earned media campaign; it pays to think about the advantages and disadvantages when working on your Los Angeles earned media marketing strategy.

Earned Media Advantages

It doesn’t cost anything to actually transmit the message, and if your media goes viral, you can be looking at major exposure for very little cost, though you do have to put time and energy into crafting the media and nurturing its release. Earned media impact is also easy to gauge. Just count the likes, pluses, clicks, etc. Finally, earned media is trusted by its recipients. People spread the message because they really believe in it and want to share it with their friends, as compared to rolling out ads and commercials which could be a hit or miss with certain audiences.

Earned Media Disadvantages

Earned media campaigns are a little more difficult to control. After you release your content out into the community, it is pretty much up to them where it goes and how it is received. Also, as stated above, you do have to put time and effort into crafting the media. Hidden costs can build up, and you have to keep an eye on your campaign — definitely something to keep in mind when you plan your Los Angeles earned media marketing strategy. Plus, since earned media can spread in unpredictable ways, the media can be hard to track and measure, but there are ways to do it.

Thinking About Strategy

It is very important to develop a serious Los Angeles earned media marketing strategy for your business. It isn’t easy to get content to go viral. You do have to put some time and energy into crafting successful content, and it takes some talent to get things moving. You also run the risk of sinking resources into a campaign that might not be successful. However, in a recent Econsultancy and Adobe survey, 84% of businesses said that they were incorporating earned media into their marketing in a significant way. Earned media can be a powerful marketing tool if done right.

Coalition Technologies understands the mechanics of earned media and what it takes to get it spread on social media channels. We have worked with both large and small businesses to help them master their social media marketing strategies. Not sure where to start? Why Startups Should Turn to Zero Paid Media Marketing Strategy

So as a startup, how do you maximize your Los Angeles paid media marketing strategy? Believe it or not, you do this by zeroing out your paid media altogether and strengthening your owned and earned media output. It might sound counterintuitive, but the effectiveness of paid media is waning every day, and the impact of owned and earned media is growing. Let’s talk about these media types and what they mean for your marketing strategy.

What Happened to Paid Media?

Paid media is not necessarily dead. However, as a startup you want to run a lean operation until your product gains traction in the market. In the early phases of your company, your Los Angeles paid media marketing strategy should de-emphasize paid media, though you can pick paid media up again later if you need to target a specific market and expand further.

For the uninitiated, paid media is basically paid advertising such as Pay Per Click, Google Adwords, Facebook advertising, and etc. Paid media is losing influence in relation to earned and owned media. Today’s customers want to engage with a brand and share their experiences of the brand with their peers, which is where owned and earned media come in. Considering that costs can add up fast for paid media and returns are increasingly becoming uncertain, it is best to focus more of your energy towards the owned and earned forms of media.

Turning to Owned and Earned Media

Owned media has to do with content and the delivery of that content such as with websites, social media outlets, blogs, and more. As a startup, you want to build excitement and engagement around your new product. You want to target social influencers, popular bloggers and hardcore customers, for example, who will spread the word about your brand. Hardcore customers are people who can’t live without your product and will spread the word on social media outlets. Take a look at the market and demographic you are targeting. What sort of culture are you appealing to? What do your targeted customers want from their content? How do you get people engaged and spreading the word?

Earned media is basically word of mouth marketing, which on the Internet takes the form of content being shared on social media networks. Every serious startup is dying to get their brand featured in the next viral sensation. If you handle your earned media campaign right, you can get major exposure for very low cost. With both owned and earned media, you don’t have to worry about climbing up-front costs like paid media, but you do have to put time and energy into mastering these media types. Strengthening your earned and owned media faculties is essential to your Los Angelespaid media marketing strategy. People place more trust in quality content and word of mouth recommendation, which translates to engagement and influence.

Growing Your Startup

Once your brand leaves its early stages and gains traction in the market, you should have more resources at your disposal to refine your marketing strategy and gain market share. This is when you can start thinking about your Los Angeles paid media marketing strategy again. Though costly and losing influence, paid media remains the most effective way to target precise portions of the market, and can complement the power of your earned and owned media nicely.

Need help getting your owned and earned media off the ground? Coalition Technologies has extensive experience running owned and earned media campaigns. We’ve achieved excellent results for businesses large and small. Let us maximize your startup’s Los Angeles paid media marketing strategy. Magento SEO Agency – Go With the Best

Do you use—or are you considering using—Magento for your eCommerce website? If you want to get the most value from your site, you’re going to need a Magento SEO agency to help you to make a splash in cyberspace. As the founder and president of Coalition Technologies, one of the top SEO agencies in Los Angeles, I have seen just how essential good SEO is to the success of any online business.

Magento Search Engine Optimization

Magento is the perfect solution for businesses that want to sell products online. This versatile content management system lets you set up your website, build your online store, create custom product pages, track your sales, accept credit card payments, provide numerous shipping options, and even create deals and promotions. In the world of eCommerce, there is very little that Magento can’t do.

Magento offers a wide array of SEO options. By taking full advantage of the available features, and going the extra mile with some advanced SEO touches, you can rise miles above your competition and dominate those all-important search engine rankings. That’s where a Magento SEO agency can become your most beneficial ally.

Magento SEO Features

Search engine optimization is one of the things that sets Magento apart from its competition. There are a lot of shopping cart platforms out there, and not all of them are poised to grant you the optimum benefit in terms of crawlability and search engine placement. In order for any shopping cart to have an SEO advantage, it must have a strong internal navigation structure, SEO-friendly URLs, excellent built-in XML and HTML site maps, custom 404 pages, functional 301 redirects and the ability to easily create high-quality site content, title tags and meta descriptions.

Magento offers all of these features, as well as more advanced features, like the ability to set up microformats and implement valuable marketing and social media campaigns. That’s why we constantly recommend Magento to our eCommerce clients. When properly optimized, Magento is your ultimate eCommerce solution.

Why You Need a Magento SEO Agency

Many of Magento’s SEO features are completely automated. For instance, you don’t have to know how to create site maps or organize your pages for optimum SEO value, because Magento does all of that for you. Magento is even designed to ensure that your back-end coding is in perfect working order, because problems like slow site speed and coding errors can dramatically hinder your site’s SEO value.

But in SEO, as in life, you can’t automate everything. If you want to get the most bang for your SEO buck, you need a Magento SEO agency that can help you to create an effective SEO strategy tailored to your site and business goals. Here are just some of the things that a truly qualified SEO company can do for you:

  • Targeted keyword research. A good SEO agency can help you to pinpoint all of the right keywords by balancing competition vs. traffic, and determining exactly what short-tail and long-tail keywords your customers are searching for online. From there, the agency can implement all the right keywords on all the right pages.
  • High-quality title tags and meta descriptions. Magento makes it easy to create title tags and meta descriptions for your site, but simply creating them isn’t enough. If you want to get the maximum number of page clicks, your tags need to have just the right marketing savvy and keyword density.
  • High-quality content creation. Content creation is essential to SEO, and it’s important to consider the importance of keyword density, anchor text usage, spelling and grammar accuracy, search engine relevance and customer appeal.
  • Site testing. Every error, every piece of broken code, every line of duplicate content…these things can hinder your search engine value, and that’s why a good SEO constantly scours and tests websites for anything that can potentially create a problem.
  • Competition research. Ultimately, SEO is about outdoing your competition in the search engine game. But in order to effectively do that, you need to understand how your competitors are achieving superior rankings. A good SEO knows exactly how to assess your competition and build your own SEO strategy accordingly.
  • Off-site SEO. Magento is great for on-site SEO, but automated off-site SEO is beyond the scope of any content management system. When it comes to link building and external marketing, you need a partner who can work on your behalf to create just the right buzz for your website.

BigCommerce WordPress Integration – Coalition Can Help

BigCommerce is a powerful platform, with enough functions and features to suit any ecommerce business. WordPress is an extremely powerful and versatile platform in its own right, but BigCommerce and WordPress don’t serve exactly the same function, and each system has its own strengths. The solution? BigCommerce and WordPress integration. Using these two platforms side by side, you can achieve the best of both worlds and maximize your business potential.

The Benefits of BigCommerce

BigCommerce is the ultimate shopping cart platform. Complete with stunning design templates, simple customization features, amazing SEO capabilities and the most professional marketing tools, BigCommerce is a dream come true for anyone who runs an online business. Easily sell and track your products and services, build beautiful product pages made to convert, and provide your customers with convenient shipping options, promotions and more.

The Benefits of WordPress

Though once limited to blogging, WordPress has evolved in recent years to accommodate every type of website need. But even today, WordPress remains your best blogging solution. If you already have a WordPress blog, you can integrate it with your BigCommerce ecommerce site to drive additional traffic. If you do not already have a WordPress blog, consider the benefits that a blog can provide for your business.

The website Hubspot conducted an independent study of 1,531 of its web service customers, 795 of whom blogged, and 736 of whom did not. Hubspot discovered that the sites with active blogs received an average of 55 percent more traffic than the sites without blogs. That’s a pretty staggering difference.

WordPress makes it easy to create and manage your blog, and its SEO features are among the best you’ll find with any content management system. That means that more people will be able to find your blog—and ultimately your business—online.

Coalition Can Help

At Coalition Technologies, we can help you not only with BigCommerce WordPress integration, but we can help you to get the most out of each platform. Coalition Technologies is a core BigCommerce partner, and in fact BigCommerce selected Coalition Technologies for a premiere web design partnership after seeing the quality of our work. Our expert team has built entire websites from the ground up using BigCommerce.

We also know WordPress inside and out. We use WordPress for development as well as marketing, so if you need to integrate an existing blog with your BigCommerce shopping cart, or if you need a partner to create a high-quality, search-optimized blog content for you, you won’t find a more qualified partner than Coalition Technologies.

BigCommerce Review: Shopify vs. BigCommerce vs. Magento vs. Volusion vs. 3D Cart

People constantly ask me to recommend the best online shopping cart platform, because I work with these platforms every day, and I know them inside and out. I run a web design company called Coalition Technologies, and I have built over a hundred ecommerce stores across multiple platforms using a variety of different approaches. I’m happy to say that many of my clients have seen tremendous success.

When it comes to online shopping carts and ecommerce content management systems, you have a lot of options to consider: BigCommerce, Magento, Shopify, 3D Cart…the list goes on. All of these platforms will allow you to set up an online store, but not all of them offer the same benefits in terms of usability, stability, customization and value.

Big Commerce

bigcommerce review

Many of the aforementioned platforms have made some much-needed improvements in recent months, but BigCommerce is still your best value. BigCommerce is easy to set up, easy to navigate, and includes the best SEO configurations of all the major platforms. BigCommerce also offers excellent customer support.

BigCommerce has a large international presence, so the company’s shipping network is also superior to many of the other platforms, including Shopify. With BigCommerce, you can ship to your customers all across the world with ease. The platform isn’t perfect, of course. For instance, BigCommerce still has a long way to go when it comes to responsive design integration, but overall, it’s still your best bet for an online shopping cart.

Score: 9/10

Shopify

shopify review

Shopify is another popular choice. Like BigCommerce, Shopify is user-friendly, versatile, and easy to use, but unlike BigCommerce, Shopify also makes great use of responsive design, which means that you can easily build a 21st century website that looks every bit as good on desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile devices.

Unfortunately, though, Shopify has some distinct disadvantages. For one thing, the platform uses its own programming language, called Liquid. This can get pretty confusing, and it’s completely unnecessary. BigCommerce, by constrast, uses HTML/CSS/Javascript. The price is also a drawback for Shopify. BigCommerce offers a better value for a greater array of features. Still, if you have limited experience with ecommerce or CSS, Shopify can make an easy, user-friendly solution.

Score: 8/10

Magento

magento review

Magento was built with developers and designers in mind, so if you have a fair amount of technical knowledge, you can customize just about anything to your exact liking. This is the biggest advantage of Magento, but it’s also one of the biggest drawbacks. It’s not the easiest or most user-friendly platform, and it also runs a bit slower than BigCommerce and Shopify. This disadvantage can be attributed to a slow PHP code and hosting environment.

Magento is comparable to Shopify in terms of features and value, but it may have a slight edge over Magento. The platform offers full programming access, features a really stable core and has an impressive selection of simple-to-use plugins. While still not quite in the same league as BigCommerce, it’s still pretty impressive, so if you’re looking for the ability to take full control over your site, you might want to see what Magento has to offer.

Score: 7.5/10

Volusion

volusion review

Volusion is another choice that you may have heard mentioned a time or two. This extremely popular platform has been around for quite a while now, and the company is constantly expanding and improving the available features. Volusion offers good SEO tools, easy setup, one-page checkout and a reasonable price tag. BigCommerce offers more data for the same amount of money, though, while boasting all of the same features, so you must consider the financial aspect as well.

The Volusion interface and templates aren’t as stylish as the ones you’ll find on other platforms, and Volusion has yet to offer a simple drag-and-drop feature, so it’s not the greatest overall. Still, there are enough good features to make Volusion worthy of high placement on the list.

Score: 8/10

3DCart

3dcart review

Finally, we have 3DCart. Unfortunately, 3DCart just doesn’t compare to the versatility and customization abilities of the other platforms. With fewer shipping providers and a clunky content management system, 3DCart just isn’t your ideal choice. Of course, you’re encouraged to review all of the platforms and see what works best for you. Most of these platforms even offer a free trial period. Our biggest recommendation, though, still goes to BigCommerce.

Score: 5/10

General Considerations

When choosing any online shopping shopping cart platform, it’s essential to consider the following components:

Price: This doesn’t mean you should automatically go with the cheapest service, because quite often, you get what you pay for. But it is important to get the most bang for your buck. Be wary of companies that charge transaction fees. These can add up fast and add dramatically to your investment. When it comes to value, BigCommerce is your best bet.

Ease of Use: To take it a bit further, it’s actually important to strike a balance between ease of use and customization. For instance, you don’t want to waste your time with a platform that’s easy to use but impossible to customize, and likewise, you don’t want a platform that offers full customization but is extremely complicated to navigate. If you’re a beginner, you may want to consider Shopify for ease of use.

Marketing Tools: You can’t have an online store without a marketing plan. You need a shopping cart that provides convenient email marketing options and other marketing tools. BigCommerce lets you run promotions, coupons, newsletters and more, all of which you can set up easily.

Conversion Tools: A high conversion rate is essential. To have a high conversion rate means that your website visitors are actually buying your products. You should be able to post product reviews, share products on social networks, recommend similar products, and allow for one-page checkout. When it comes to available conversion tools, it’s a close race between BigCommerce, Shopify and Magento.

SEO: Even if you sell the best product in your industry, it’s not going to matter if nobody can find it. That’s why you need a site that’s effectively search engine optimized. In this category, BigCommerce wins hands down.
