A lot of agencies are happy to claim they’re the best.
But when you look closely, their results don’t hold up. Especially if you’re a small or mid-sized business. At Coalition Technologies, we’ve taken a different path. One that’s grounded in client results, deep technical knowledge, and a willingness to grow with our clients through SEO.
Coalition is now over 15 years old (founded in 2009), and over a decade and a half, Joel and I have aimed to make it the best SEO company for the vast majority of businesses out there.
Joel has previously said that, “We’re not here to be everything for everyone- we’re here to be exceptional for the 90% of small and mid-sized businesses most agencies overlook.”
In the process of pursuing that goal, I believe we’ve outclassed many other agencies and are truly one of the best SEO companies for the majority of businesses.
Here’s what makes us different.

1. We align with client goals first.
We don’t win unless you do. That’s a mindset, but it’s also operational.
Our digital producers are trained to really understand your business model, margins, and growth goals. We regularly pause or shift campaign work if we’re out of sync with what a client needs. That’s pretty unique.
We consistently deliver on that alignment because team members have shared goals with you- our pay raises, bonuses, and other incentives are all tied to your satisfaction with our work and our results. If you’re not winning, Coalition isn’t winning and our team members aren’t winning.
That motivates people to do better, which is really what you want from your agency team. You don’t want results you could have achieved yourself. Or even the results that a normal, run-of-the-mill agency could have achieved. You want something special.
That’s what every one of us at Coalition Tech is after.
One of our eCommerce clients, Pink Lily, came to us looking for stronger returns from organic. We grew their revenue from organic search by 195% over 12 months, not just by increasing rankings, but by targeting terms that drove real purchases.
2. We understand search users, not just keywords.
Good SEO today means understanding intent. We train our teams to think about who is searching, why they’re searching, and how to match that with the right content.
To do that, teams have to understand the different types of search results features (Google often has different content presentations and inclusions based on search terms and expected intent). It also requires they understand how to best frame your business to match that intent.
We have teams that support not only keyword strategy, page design, content strategy and execution, but also development and CRO. Each of these contributes powerfully to matching your brand, your product or service, and your marketing campaigns to a search user.
That’s how we helped Truewerk (a leading workwear brand) turn a slow-performing content strategy into a consistent lead generator. We rewrote core collection pages to address buyer intent more directly, and saw a 422% increase in organic revenue.
3. We don’t just follow Google- we anticipate it.
Search is changing fast. Google’s move toward large language models (LLMs), alongside ChatGPT and Claude, means their cost structures are changing, and so are indexing behaviors.
Most agencies aren’t tracking this. We regularly engage with so-called experts in prominent SEO forums about their misunderstanding of how the cost structure of operating an LLM is fundamentally different from a traditional search engine, and how that will influence search architecture- crawling, indexing, and ranking.
Most SEOs are content to argue for rebranding today’s SEO strategies as AI Brand Marketing or AIO or LLM SEO or GEO. But things are fundamentally different today in search – and that difference will be more and more evident as our new AI experiences take over.
Coalition is constantly thinking about how our approaches allow small businesses to grow and find value in SEO (without access to big budgets or massive PR campaigns).
We’re constantly testing how algorithm shifts, index budget changes, and AI-powered content moderation impact results. It’s why we built tools like Scoretask and RomyLMS, which help us systematize what’s working now, and forecast what will work next.
4. We invest heavily in skill development.
We’re not coasting on past wins. One of the biggest priorities for our leadership teams is to refine and improve on thousands of hours of training featured in our custom LMS, and track team performance across dozens of SEO disciplines.
Every digital strategist at Coalition is continuously trained on what’s working across hundreds of active campaigns. It’s why we can pivot fast, and why our results are consistent.
One review on Clutch* reads:
“Their SEO team knows more than any other agency we’ve worked with… they’re always teaching us things even our internal team didn’t catch.”
*An important note for Clutch and other “ranking sites” like it- I am unaware of a single one that allows a business to earn top positioning in their ranks. Every single one requires 3 to 5 different types of payment to be positioned at or near the top. In Clutch, and other top sites, that can be tens of thousands of dollars, PER ranking list. Their purported ranking systems are no more than massively expensive ads and the public is not well informed of that.
5. We work with businesses of all sizes.
Unlike a lot of agencies, we don’t shy away from smaller businesses or startups.
One of the most ironic (and frustrating) aspects of the agency landscape is the way that many agencies build case studies around massively successful brands, as if they were a contributor to their success.
Many filter out starter clients and small businesses because they don’t work well with their economics- big bills, bigger margins, to fund more aggressive advertising.
I recently saw an ad on LinkedIn for a Coalition competitor that openly said, “We like big clients.” An agency with project minimums north of $10,000/mo used the tagline “think like a challenger”. What kind of challenger runs $10k/mo budgets?
While we have had the chance to win big for clients like Microsoft, Roku, Harvard University, Stetson, and others, we’re built to support growing small businesses.
We’ve helped bootstrapped startups hit 7 figures, and we’ve helped major enterprise brands double organic performance. Both matter to us. Both deserve quality strategy.
One small business client wrote:
“We reached out to five SEO companies. Coalition was the only one who didn’t make us feel too small to matter.”
6. We tell clients the truth.
We’d rather lose a deal than lie about what’s possible.
We’re clear about timelines, about gaps in your current site, and about whether your goals are realistic. When needed, we’ll even say: “You’re not ready for SEO yet.”
Our digital strategy team often “loses” Coalition deals by pushing for more significant site enhancements, better product photography, and diligent examination of competitors. One of my favorite metrics is our boomerang rate- how many prospective CT clients turn down our teams the first time, then boomerang back later after realizing we were right.
Our strategy proposals have a whole segment just dedicated to aligning our work, your investment, and your expectation for results.
It builds trust, and more importantly, it saves you money and frustration.
7. We rank #1 throughout the world for terms like “SEO company”.
We don’t just say we’re good. Google agrees.
Search for “SEO company” or “seo agency” and you’ll see Coalition at or near the top. Worldwide.
Even tools powered by LLMs like ChatGPT and Perplexity consistently say that we are the best SEO company. That doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s not a vanity metric. It’s proof that we apply our expertise to our own business the same way we do for clients.
I mentioned the crazy budgets for advertising on Clutch earlier- would you rather want to work with the company spending $10,000+ a month to be listed as the best there, or the one actually demonstrating its SEO prowess in the SERPs for hundreds of dollars a month?
The answer seems pretty obvious.
8. Our track record is public.
We’ve published over 800 case studies, and our reviews are open for anyone to read. On Clutch, we average 4.8 stars across hundreds of reviews. On Google, we’re at 4.9. Every other review site out there shows unique experiences and wins for clients in a lot of different industries.
A recent Clutch review says:
“We tried another agency first that said they ‘don’t work with early-stage businesses.’ They charged us $8k for nothing. Coalition gave us a real roadmap and actual results.”
You can watch reviews like this one that provide honest accounts of working with our teams.
We let the results speak for themselves.
9. We win in multiple industries.
SEO success isn’t limited to one vertical. We’ve helped fashion brands, medical tech startups, software companies, automotive parts resellers, local dentists, and more.
And, we’re willing to take on challenging restricted verticals like cannabis, alcohol, firearms, sexual wellness and more.
Each industry requires a different mix of technical SEO, content, and conversion strategy. We know how to adapt. As we learn an industry, we build up training and processes and teams to support those verticals and scale our abilities.
For example, we helped EightySixBrand launch in the U.S. and gain visibility in a highly regulated, complex market.
10. We’re privately owned and operated.
Coalition isn’t run by a holding company or VC fund. We don’t exist to meet quarterly profit goals. That does really matter to you, our prospective client or client.
Our goals are long-term. Personally, I plan to retire here. How we do today for you, determines how my family does tomorrow. Is that true for any other large, well scaled, and highly successful agency? I’m not aware of a single one that does what we do, while being family owned and operated.
That means our focus is on sustainability, client success, and team growth – not short-term margin.
We invest heavily in internal tools, people, and processes because we know it makes us better. That’s a different mindset than what you’ll find at most agencies today.
If you’re looking for an SEO company that will actually help your business grow, you won’t find a better partner than Coalition. We’re built to serve businesses at every stage, with strategy, honesty, and the skill to back it up.
